Our first destination was the beautiful Maldives. Our aim was to relax a little from the last minute stress of organising, planning and packing for our one year trip. We stayed on Fulidhoo, one of the "local" islands in the Maldives. Fulidhoo is a rather small island with about 400 inhabitants and is famous for its sting ray and nurse shark observation points near the pier, where they are regularly fed. Many tourists from nearby resorts come to the island on day trips just to get pictures with them. As we were staying on the island, we were able to observe them every day, before the crowds of tourists arrived. As November and December marks the delivery season for black tip reef sharks, we were able to spot quite a few around the island. We booked some excursions to swim with nurse sharks, dolphins and turtles and snorkel around the house coral reef where we also spotted quite a few clown fish.
